Covid Quarantine
This year Covid 19 happened. It was a once in a century pandemic that shut down life as we know it. You were sent home from school, Dad was sent home from work, we were told to "shelter at home", "social distance", we started ordering groceries and stocking up on cleaning supplies.
This was the year our family mastered "Plan B". We rescheduled and adapted and enjoyed the hell out of every minute this gave us together as a family. We called it "the great realization".
Our spring break ski trip was cancelled, so we jumped in the car and drove to New Mexico with friends. We skied and sledded down white sand hills. We laughed and loved every minute, because we knew we were returning home to the unknown.
But when we got home, we found out how happy we could be just being together. Laughing, biking, swimming, playing games, making s'mores, dancing, doing puzzles, skateboarding, teaching Finn to swim, having competitions, staying up late, sleeping in. We painted each others nails, dyed each others hair, did blind Oreo taste tests, made homemade pasta and pizza, played badminton and volleyball, swam, fished, golfed, enjoyed the great outdoors... and enjoyed each other. And we watched The Amazing Race. Every. Night. Cuddled up... together!
We canceled Marco Island, New York City, France, the BVI sail trip. So when we started getting antsy, we rescheduled with road trips. We drove to Lake LBJ, Dauphin Island, Galveston, Wisconsin and Colorado. We celebrated my birthday, our anniversary, Easter in our front and back yard. And each was perfect! We joined a boat club so we could host friends and family, but still be outside. Later in quarantine we celebrated both of your birthdays. You had car parades and video messages from friends, we celebrated at home, on the boat, and in Colorado.
When I look back on this, I will remember it as one of my favorite times. I hope you do too. We were reminded to slow down and just got to enjoy each other. We certainly had some tears and frustrations, but I think they were outweighed by great memories, laughter and family fun.
Here are a few highlights of our infinite memories from the great realization. I didn't post anything during this time, because we were just being together... so these are from March to the end of 2020.
